Novomatic publishes its revenue to the nearest hundred million and its headcount to the nearest hundred. It does not publish the return on a single one of its games.
That gap is the whole of this page. The company behind the machines in half the bars in Austria, Germany and Slovenia will tell you it took more than 3.6 billion euros in 2025. It will not tell you what Book of Ra pays back.
Every figure below comes either from the company’s own pages or from the game databases. I say which on every line, because on this studio the difference matters more than usual.
If you read one line and close the page, read this one. The original Book of Ra returns 92.13 percent and the Deluxe version sitting next to it in the same lobby returns 95.10 percent.
What Novomatic Publishes About Itself
Novomatic was founded in 1980 and runs its group from Gumpoldskirchen, a town south of Vienna. Greentube, the digital arm that builds the online versions, joined the group in 2010 and works from Wiedner Hauptstrasse in Vienna.
The corporate numbers are detailed and easy to find. The game numbers do not exist at all.
| Figure | What the company publishes | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Year founded | 1980 | Its own company page |
| Revenue | More than 3.6 billion euros in 2025 | Its own company page |
| Employees | Around 26,000, and more than 26,200 further down the same page | Its own company page |
| Reach | Subsidiaries in around 50 countries and export to 130, with more than 70 stated elsewhere on the page | Its own company page |
| Gaming locations | About 2,000 worldwide | Its own company page |
| Licences for the online arm | UK Gambling Commission account 41020 and Malta MGA/CRP/120/2006 | Greentube’s own pages |
| Return to player on any game | Nothing | Nowhere |
| Hit frequency on any game | Nothing | Nowhere |
| Odds of a maximum win | Nothing | Nowhere |
| Size of the game catalog | Nothing | Nowhere |
The top half of this table took ten minutes to assemble from the company’s own material. The bottom half does not appear on any Novomatic or Greentube page I could find.
Greentube’s game section names four titles as examples, Book of Ra Deluxe, Lucky Lady’s Charm Deluxe, Reel King and Sizzling Hot Deluxe. Not one of the four carries a data sheet, a return figure or even a release date.
Two of Greentube’s offices sit in Slovenia, in Ljubljana and Maribor. The games are built close to the market that plays them and the numbers behind them still are not published.
Two Book of Ra Games Sit Side by Side at Different Prices
Most studios on this site ship one game at several returns and let the casino choose. Novomatic does something simpler and, for your balance, just as expensive.
It ships two separate games with almost the same name. They sit one tile apart in the same lobby and nothing on either tile tells you which one costs more to play.
| What changes | Book of Ra | Book of Ra Deluxe |
|---|---|---|
| Return to player | 92.13 percent | 95.10 percent |
| House edge | 7.87 percent | 4.90 percent |
| Paylines | Up to nine, which you choose | Ten |
| Maximum win | 5,000x your stake | 10,035x your stake |
| Released | Around March 2005 | April 2008 |
| Cost of an hour at 0.50 a spin | 23.61 euros | 14.70 euros |
Three points of return and double the ceiling, for the same stake, on two games that look almost identical in the lobby. Neither figure is printed anywhere by the studio.
Here is the uncomfortable part. I take both figures from the slot databases, because Greentube keeps no public page for either game. The only numbers available for the most played slot family in Europe come from third parties.
On the original there is worse. Its hit frequency is printed in the databases as the number 28 with no unit attached anywhere, which makes it unusable rather than merely absent. The full reading sits in my Book of Ra review.
What an Hour of Novomatic Actually Costs
A return figure on its own tells you nothing useful. What takes money out of your account is that figure multiplied by everything you push across the table in an hour.
Six hundred spins an hour is an ordinary pace once autoplay is running. Here is what the two Book of Ra builds cost at three common stakes.
| Stake per spin | Wagered in an hour | Book of Ra at 92.13 percent | Deluxe at 95.10 percent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.20 euros | 120 euros | 9.44 euros | 5.88 euros |
| 0.50 euros | 300 euros | 23.61 euros | 14.70 euros |
| 1.00 euros | 600 euros | 47.22 euros | 29.40 euros |
The same hour, the same stake, the same lobby. Opening the wrong Book of Ra costs 8.91 euros an hour at fifty cents a spin. These are long run averages, not a prediction for one session.
Set that against the cheapest slot I have reviewed. At 96.70 percent the house keeps 9.90 euros of a 300 euro hour. The original Book of Ra keeps 23.61, which is nearly two and a half times as much for the same hour of your time.
Fifty euros is the easiest way to feel it. At fifty cents a spin that balance survives roughly two hours on the original and roughly three and a half on the Deluxe, before any swing in either direction.
How to Check a Novomatic Game Before You Deposit
The check takes about a minute and works on any game in any lobby.
| Step | What you are doing |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the game in demo mode, before any deposit decision |
| 2 | Open the information panel, usually behind an “i” button or the menu |
| 3 | Read the return to player and write the exact figure down |
| 4 | Check whether the title says Deluxe, because that is a different game at a different price |
| 5 | Repeat at a second casino and compare the same figures |
Step four matters more on this studio than on any other reviewed here. Elsewhere you are comparing builds of one game. Here you are comparing two games that share a name.
If the panel is missing or blank, that is a verdict on the operator rather than on the studio. The game carries the panel. The lobby decides whether you are allowed to open it.
The longer version of this check, with every published return I have read off the reviews on this site, sits on my page about how to find a slot’s RTP.
Novomatic Next to a Studio That Publishes Its Math
It is worth seeing what full disclosure looks like, because it exists and it is not rare.
For one game, Nolimit City publishes the default return at 96.06 percent and then names its two reduced builds outright, at 94.11 and 90.02. It adds the hit frequency at 25.98 percent and the odds of the maximum win at 1 in 2,400,000.
That is four numbers, on one title, that Novomatic prints for none of its titles. The point is not that one studio makes better games. It is that one of them lets you price the evening before you start it.
The full ladder sits on my game providers page, where every studio reviewed here is sorted by how much it actually publishes.
Which Casinos Reviewed Here Carry Novomatic
Novomatic sits in most lobbies, so the logo on a homepage narrows nothing by itself. What the table below shows is the quality band you would be choosing from.

Scores come from my own four criteria and are about the operator, not the studio. The highest score on this site belongs to a casino that carries no Novomatic at all, which is worth knowing before a logo wall decides anything for you.
Nothing in that table is a recommendation to play Book of Ra. A 7 out of 10 operator serving a 92.13 percent game is still serving a 92.13 percent game.
How I Checked These Numbers
The corporate figures come from Novomatic’s own company pages and from Greentube’s own licensing pages, read on 26 October 2026. Where the company contradicts itself, as it does on employees and on countries, I have printed both figures rather than picking the flattering one.
The game figures do not come from the studio, because the studio does not publish them. The 92.13 and the 95.10 come from the slot databases used in my Book of Ra review, which carries the date of its last check.
Where a line says the studio publishes nothing, it means I looked at its own pages and found nothing, not that I did not look. If Novomatic or Greentube publishes a data sheet, write to me and I will correct the page and date the change.
The casino scores are mine, from the four criteria set out in my rating method. No studio and no operator has any say in them.
Where to Go Next
Where to Play Novomatic Games for Real Money
The studio arrives the same in every lobby. The operator decides your bonus terms, your maximum bet while wagering and how quickly the money comes back out, so that is the choice worth spending time on.
FAQ About Novomatic Casinos
What is Novomatic?
It is an Austrian gaming group founded in 1980 and run from Gumpoldskirchen, south of Vienna. It makes the physical machines you see in bars and arcades across Europe, and its digital arm turns those same titles into online slots.
Is Greentube the same company as Novomatic?
Greentube is the part of Novomatic that builds the online games, and it joined the group in 2010. When you open a Novomatic slot in an online lobby you are playing a Greentube build, which is why its licence numbers rather than the parent group’s are the ones that matter.
What is the RTP of Book of Ra?
The original returns 92.13 percent and the Deluxe version returns 95.10 percent. Neither figure is published by the studio, so both come from the slot databases, and that is the single most important thing to understand about this game family.
Why does Novomatic not publish its return to player figures?
The company has never said. What I can tell you is that a single page of mathematics would take an afternoon to write, the company publishes its revenue and its headcount in detail, and after more than twenty years of Book of Ra that page still does not exist.
Is Book of Ra Deluxe better than the original?
It is cheaper to play, which is the only comparison that holds over a long run. Three points of extra return, an extra payline and double the ceiling, for the same stake, and at fifty cents a spin the difference is 8.91 euros an hour.
How do I know which Book of Ra I am playing?
Read the title on the game screen rather than on the lobby tile, because the word Deluxe is the whole difference. Then open the information panel and read the return, since a lobby that hides that panel is telling you something about itself.
Are Novomatic slots rigged?
The online arm holds a UK Gambling Commission software licence and a Malta Gaming Authority licence, so the games do what their mathematics says. The risk here is not a rigged reel, it is a published return that does not exist and a version difference nobody points out to you.
Which casinos have Novomatic games?
Most of the casinos I have reviewed carry the studio, and the table higher up this page names each one with the score I gave it. The spread runs from 7 out of 10 down to 3, so the logo alone tells you very little about where you are depositing.
Can I play Novomatic slots for free?
Yes, and on this studio the free round has a job beyond entertainment. It is where you open the information panel and find out whether the lobby has served you the original or the Deluxe, before any money is involved.
Is Novomatic licensed?
Its online arm publishes a UK Gambling Commission remote software licence under account number 41020 and a Malta Gaming Authority Type 1 authorisation numbered MGA/CRP/120/2006. Those are the two I could verify on the company’s own pages.
Who Wrote This

I grew up with these machines in the corner of every cafe, which is exactly why this page is written the way it is. Familiarity is not disclosure, and a game everyone recognises can still be the most expensive one in the lobby.
I am responsible for everything published here. The corporate figures were read from the company’s own pages on 26 October 2026 and the game figures from the databases named in my Book of Ra review. If one of them stops holding, write to me and I will correct it and date the change.
18+. Gambling can be addictive. Nothing on this page makes any Novomatic slot a good bet, because the better of the two games above still keeps nearly five euros of every hundred you stake and the worse one keeps almost eight. What the page can do is stop you paying the higher price by accident. Decide the stake and the number of spins before you open the lobby, and treat a withdrawal as the end of the session rather than an interruption of it. If gambling has stopped being entertainment, free and confidential help is available in Slovenia through NIJZ.
