Dead or Alive 2 returns 96.80 percent and caps at 100,000x, not the 111,111x almost every other site prints. NetEnt publishes one of those figures.
Dead or Alive 2 scores 7 out of 10 here. Before anything else, one disclosure that belongs at the top rather than buried at the bottom: this is the first review on this site written without opening the game.
The demo on this site will not load it. I tried twice, got an error both times, and then checked whether the fault was ours. It is not specific to this game and it is not specific to us: every NetEnt title I tested behaves the same way while games from other studios load normally. So every figure below comes from NetEnt’s own game page rather than from the game’s own screens, and I say so again in its own section further down, because it changes what this review can and cannot promise you.
What I can tell you is that the number almost every site prints for this game is not the number its studio prints. You will see 111,111x quoted as the maximum win. NetEnt says 100,000x.
These are the published figures, every one of them taken from the game or the studio rather than from a database. Where nothing is published, that is what the row says.

All of it comes from what NetEnt publishes for this game. The maximum win figure carries a caveat that the section below works through, because the headline number and the number you can actually reach are not the same thing.
Games on this site are scored on four criteria of their own: what the game returns, what it costs to reach the feature, how honest the studio is about how the game behaves, and whether a real balance survives long enough to see the feature. Each is scored 1 to 10 against the published bands on the method page. Where a studio publishes nothing a criterion can be built from, I leave it unscored and average the rest. A half rounds up.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Return to player | 9 | 96.80 percent, which sits in the 96.50 to 96.99 band. NetEnt lists one figure and no lower build |
| Cost of reaching the feature | 10 | No bonus buy is published for this game. Three scatters open the round and you choose your mode on the spot, so the best version of the feature is reachable from the first trigger |
| Volatility honesty | 3 | NetEnt publishes a volatility rating, High, and none of the three figures behind it. No hit frequency, no feature frequency, no odds on the maximum |
| Session survivability | Not scored | The band needs a published feature frequency. NetEnt publishes none, so I will not invent one |
Average of 9, 10 and 3 is 7.33, which rounds to 7. The fourth criterion stays unscored, because no feature frequency is published. Every input here is NetEnt’s published figure, not a reading I took inside the game.
Seven puts it level with Razor Shark, Book of Dead, Starburst, Duck Hunters, Gonzo’s Quest and Eye of Horus. It is a good return attached to a feature nobody charges you for, held back by the usual silence about odds.
NetEnt belongs to Evolution now, and Evolution runs a demo and information site for the studio’s games. That page is the source for everything in the table below.

Read on 21 October 2026. The nine paylines are worth noticing on their own, because this is a famously volatile game built on a very small grid.
Nine lines is the detail that explains the reputation. A 96.80 percent return spread across only nine paying lines, with a feature that can reach six figures of your stake, has to take the money from somewhere. It takes it from the base game, spin after spin, which is what high volatility means in practice and what no published number here will tell you.
Search this game and you will meet 111,111x almost immediately. It is on review sites, on casino lobbies, in video titles. It has the shape of a real figure, five repeating digits, the kind of number a mathematician would arrive at rather than a marketer.
NetEnt’s own page says something else. The sentence reads that during the Train Heist Free Spins Bonus Round, wins can reach up to 100,000x of the original bet.
| Source | Maximum win | Status |
|---|---|---|
| NetEnt, on its own game page | 100,000x the original bet | Published by the studio |
| Most review sites and lobbies | 111,111x | Not published by the studio anywhere I could find |
| Our own game library | 500,000 per spin | A currency figure, not a multiple, and not from NetEnt |
I am not saying 111,111x is invented. It may well be a theoretical ceiling someone computed from the paytable and the 16x Train Heist multiplier. I am saying the studio does not print it, and a figure the studio does not print is not a figure I will hand you as fact.
The practical difference between the two is smaller than it looks, because neither of you nor I will see either number. What the gap tells you is something else, and it is the reason this site exists. An eleven percent discrepancy in the single most quoted statistic about one of the most famous slots ever made has been sitting in plain sight, repeated from page to page, because repeating is cheaper than checking.
Three or more scatters award 12 free spins, and then the game does something most slots do not. It lets you choose how those spins behave. The choice is the design, and the three options are not interchangeable.
| Mode | How it works | Extra spins |
|---|---|---|
| Old Saloon | Every win in the round is multiplied by 2 | Two sticky wilds on the reels award 5 more |
| High Noon Saloon | Wilds become multipliers. Two wilds on the same reel become double multiplier wilds, three become triple | Sticky wilds on each of the reels award 5 more |
| Train Heist | A progress bar fills one step for every wild that lands. At sixteen steps the multiplier reaches 16x | Reaching sixteen steps awards 5 more |
From NetEnt’s own description of the game. The 100,000x maximum is attached specifically to Train Heist, not to the other two modes.
Read those three rows as a risk dial, because that is what they are. Old Saloon doubles everything immediately and asks nothing of you. Train Heist pays nothing extra until wilds accumulate, and only rewards you properly if sixteen of them turn up inside a round that starts with twelve spins. The mode that carries the headline number is also the mode most likely to end with nothing.
NetEnt publishes no figure for how often each mode pays, how often the round triggers at all, or what share of the return sits in each branch. So the choice the game asks you to make is one you are asked to make blind, which is an odd way to design a decision.
NetEnt describes no bonus buy for this game. The site carries a general notice that bonus buy and jackpot features may not be available in every jurisdiction, but nothing in the game’s own description offers a price for skipping to the feature.
The method page scores feature cost two ways. Where a buy price exists, that price is scored. Where there is none, the question becomes how many separate bonus triggers it takes to reach the best version of the feature. Here it takes one. Three scatters, then you pick Train Heist, and the full 16x ladder is live inside that round. Nothing is carried over and nothing is locked behind a second visit.
| Game | Feature cost | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Dead or Alive 2 | No buy, best mode available from the first trigger | 10 |
| Eye of Horus | No buy, everything reachable from the first trigger | 10 |
| Big Bass Bonanza | No buy, everything reachable from the first trigger | 10 |
| Razor Shark | No buy, everything reachable from the first trigger | 10 |
| Gates of Olympus | Buy published at 100x the stake | 6 |
Only a handful of the slots reviewed here have no buy button, and all of them were released before the buy button became standard, which is a fact about dates rather than about generosity.
One complication worth printing. Our library carries a second entry called Dead or Alive 2 Feature Buy, listed as a NetEnt title, which is a separate game that sells entry to the feature. NetEnt’s page for Dead or Alive 2 does not mention it and I could not find a page for it on NetEnt’s own site, so I have no studio figures for that version and this review says nothing about its numbers. What the split tells you is that the studio chose to sell the shortcut as a different game rather than put a button in this one, and the game scored here is the one without the button.
Every other slot review on this site opens with a version of the same sentence: I read these figures inside the game. I cannot write that sentence here, so here is exactly what happened instead.
The demo on this site returns an error for Dead or Alive 2. I tried it twice. Before reporting it as a fault I checked whether it was the game, the studio or us.
| Demo I tested | Studio | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Big Bass Bonanza | Reel Kingdom, via Pragmatic Play | Loads and plays normally |
| Dead or Alive 2 | NetEnt | Error |
| Starburst | NetEnt | Error |
| Gonzo’s Quest | NetEnt | Error |
Tested on 21 October 2026. Three NetEnt games fail and a game from another studio works, which points at NetEnt content rather than at a fault on this site.
So what does that cost you as a reader? Three things, and I would rather list them than let you assume this review is built the same way as the others.
First, I cannot confirm that the build a casino installs matches the 96.80 percent NetEnt publishes. On every other review I open the rules screen and read the figure in the version actually running. Eye of Horus has five different returns licensed under one name, and the only way a player ever sees which one they have is that screen. I could not check it here.
Second, I cannot tell you what the game itself displays. Some studios print a volatility word or a maximum win on the loading screen, and whether the studio’s website and the game agree is often the most useful thing in a review. Here I only have one of the two sides.
Third, the stake range. NetEnt publishes 0.09 to 9, which I have printed, but stake ranges are set per operator and the figure inside the game is the one that binds. Normally I measure it by stepping the dial to both ends. Not this time.
What this review does still give you is a studio’s published position, checked against what everyone else repeats, with the gaps marked. That is worth something. It is not worth the same as the others, and pretending otherwise would be the easiest possible way to lose the only thing this site has.
This site carries a library of just under 41,000 game entries fed by a third party. The entry for this game disagrees with NetEnt in two places and I would rather print that than quietly work around it.
| Field | Our library says | NetEnt says | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Provider | NetEnt | NetEnt | Correct |
| Reels | 5 | 5 by 3 | Correct |
| Minimum bet | 0.01 | 0.09 | Wrong |
| Maximum bet | 0.5 | 9 | Wrong by a factor of eighteen |
| Maximum win per spin | 500,000 | 100,000x the bet | A currency figure where a multiple belongs |
| Restrictions | GB, NL | Not stated on the game page | Unverified |
This is the sixth review in a row where the library feed and the studio disagree. The figures are rendered by the plugin that feeds the library and there is no field in our system to edit, which is a limitation I would rather state than hide.
| Game | Studio | Headline return | Lowest build | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Big Bass Bonanza | Reel Kingdom | 96.71 percent | None published | 8 |
| Dead or Alive 2 | NetEnt | 96.80 percent | None published | 7 |
| Razor Shark | Push Gaming | 96.70 percent | 94.06 percent | 7 |
| Eye of Horus | Reel Time Gaming | 96.31 percent | 90.25 percent | 7 |
| Book of Dead | Play n GO | 96.21 percent | 84.18 percent | 7 |
| Starburst | NetEnt | 96.09 percent | 90.05 percent | 7 |
| Duck Hunters | Nolimit City | 96.05 percent | None published | 7 |
| Gonzo’s Quest | NetEnt | 95.97 percent | 94.66 percent | 7 |
| Sugar Rush | Pragmatic Play | 96.50 percent | None published | 6 |
| Sweet Bonanza | Pragmatic Play | 96.60 percent | 96.49 percent | 6 |
| Gates of Olympus | Pragmatic Play | 96.50 percent | None published | 6 |
| Money Train 5 | Relax Gaming | 96.10 percent | 90.00 percent | 5 |
| Mega Moolah | Games Global | 93.42 percent | 88.12 percent | 5 |
| Book of Ra | Greentube | 92.13 percent | None published | 5 |
| Thunderstruck II | Games Global | 96.65 percent | 86.71 percent | 4 |
Dead or Alive 2 sits at the top of this table on published return and at the bottom on confidence, because it is the only one I could not open. Read the score with that in mind.
The game is the same everywhere. The terms wrapped around it are not, and that is where a session quietly gets more expensive. Four things are worth thirty seconds each.
First, the return printed in the game information panel, every time you open the game at a casino you have not used before. Plenty of slots ship in more than one build, and that panel is the only place the figure you are actually playing is shown.
Second, how the game counts toward wagering, and whether buying a feature voids an active bonus. Slots usually count in full, but feature purchases are excluded under most terms and some casinos cancel the bonus outright for one. The wagering terms are where both of those live.
Third, the maximum stake allowed while a bonus is running. It is commonly five euros a spin, and going over it once is enough for a casino to void everything the bonus produced.
Fourth, the cap on what you may withdraw from bonus winnings. A large maximum win means nothing if the terms stop your payout well below it, and that ceiling is printed in the bonus terms rather than in the game.
The return figure on its own tells you nothing about what a session costs. What costs you money is the return multiplied by how much you push across the table, and a slot pushes a great deal. Six hundred spins in an hour is an ordinary pace once autoplay is running.
At 96.8 percent the house keeps 3.2 percent of everything staked. Here is what that is worth at three ordinary stakes, using the same model as my cost per hour table.
| Stake per spin | Wagered in an hour | House edge | Cost of the hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| €0.20 | €120 | 3.2% | €3.84 |
| €0.50 | €300 | 3.2% | €9.60 |
| €1.00 | €600 | 3.2% | €19.20 |
Six hundred spins an hour, the house edge applied to everything wagered in that hour. These are averages over a very long run, not a prediction for one session, and the swings in either direction are far larger than the edge.
I have to be straight with you here too. The demo on this site is not loading this game at the moment, and the same is true of every other NetEnt title we carry. The button below is still the right place to try, because the fault may clear without warning, but if it returns an error you are seeing the same thing I saw.
NetEnt is one of the easiest catalogs to find. Twenty six of the 36 casinos reviewed on this site name it as a supplier, which is almost as wide as Pragmatic Play and far wider than Push Gaming or Merkur. So the question is not where the game exists but which of those casinos is worth your deposit.
| Casino | Overall | Terms fairness | Payouts and support | Bonus value | Review |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Playfina Casino | 7 / 10 | 6 / 10 | 8 / 10 | 7 / 10 | Read the review |
| National Casino | 7 / 10 | 6 / 10 | 8 / 10 | 6 / 10 | Read the review |
| HellSpin Casino | 7 / 10 | 6 / 10 | 8 / 10 | 5 / 10 | Read the review |
| 20bet Casino | 7 / 10 | 6 / 10 | 6 / 10 | 6 / 10 | Read the review |
| CasinoChan | 7 / 10 | 5 / 10 | 7 / 10 | 6 / 10 | Read the review |
Five of the twenty six are shown. Each casino score is the average of four criteria and the full working is inside every review.
Four of those tie on terms fairness at six, so the tie runs on. Three of the four also score eight for payouts and support, which leaves bonus value to settle it: Playfina at seven, National at six, HellSpin at five.
Playfina takes it, and I will note that it has now won this tiebreak five times on this site. That is not favoritism, it is what happens when the same four criteria are applied to the same thirty six casinos and the studio in question is stocked almost everywhere. When a studio narrows the field the answer changes: Razor Shark sent you to National Casino and Eye of Horus to VeloBet, because Push Gaming and Merkur are carried by far fewer places.
One thing to carry in with you. NetEnt licenses lower return builds of several games to operators who want them, and this site has already documented it on Starburst and Gonzo’s Quest. NetEnt publishes no alternative build for Dead or Alive 2, and I could not open the game to check the figure in the version running. Open the rules screen before you stake anything real and read the return there.
What is the RTP of Dead or Alive 2?
96.80 percent, published by NetEnt on its own game page. That is among the highest returns of any slot reviewed on this site. NetEnt lists no alternative build for this game, though it does license lower returns for some of its other titles.
What is the maximum win in Dead or Alive 2?
NetEnt says wins can reach up to 100,000 times the original bet, in the Train Heist free spins round. Nearly every other site quotes 111,111x instead. I could not find that figure published by the studio anywhere, so this review uses the studio’s number.
Is Dead or Alive 2 high volatility?
NetEnt calls it high volatility in its own description. No hit frequency, feature frequency or odds on the maximum are published, so there is no figure to test the word against. Nine paylines and a six figure ceiling make the label easy to believe anyway.
Does Dead or Alive 2 have a bonus buy?
NetEnt describes none for this game. The only route into the free spins is landing three or more scatters in the base game, which is why this title scores the maximum on feature cost in my method.
How do the free spins work in Dead or Alive 2?
Three or more scatters award 12 free spins and then you choose one of three modes. Old Saloon doubles every win, High Noon Saloon turns wilds into multipliers, and Train Heist fills a bar that reaches a 16x multiplier after sixteen wilds.
Which free spins mode should you pick?
NetEnt publishes no figures for how often each mode pays, so nobody outside the studio can answer that properly. What the descriptions tell you is that Old Saloon pays steadily and Train Heist carries the 100,000x ceiling along with the highest chance of nothing at all.
How many paylines does Dead or Alive 2 have?
Nine, across five reels and three rows. That is a very small grid for a game with this reputation, and it is part of why the base game feels as thin as it does between features.
Why does this review not quote figures from inside the game?
Because the demo would not load. Every NetEnt title I tested returned an error while games from other studios played normally, so the figures here come from NetEnt’s published game page instead. I have said so in the review rather than letting you assume otherwise.
Does any casino run Dead or Alive 2 at a lower RTP?
NetEnt publishes no alternative build for it, so there is no documented lower version. That is worth checking yourself in the rules screen, because NetEnt does license quieter builds of Starburst and Gonzo’s Quest and a casino is not obliged to tell you which one it installed.
Which casinos have Dead or Alive 2?
Twenty six of the 36 casinos reviewed on this site list NetEnt as a supplier, so it is one of the easier games to find. Playfina scores highest among them on my four criteria, though operator catalogs change without notice so search the lobby before you deposit.

I came to this from finance, which is probably why I read a casino the way I read a contract. The marketing sits on the homepage, and the clause that decides whether you get paid sits twelve pages down.
I am responsible for everything published here, including the gaps. This is the only slot review on this site written without opening the game, because the demo would not run on 21 October 2026 and the same was true of every other NetEnt title I tried. Every figure above comes from NetEnt’s own game page, read that day, and I have marked what I could not check rather than filling it in from somewhere else. The one claim I have actively contradicted is the 111,111x maximum that almost every site prints, because the studio prints 100,000x and I could find no studio source for the larger number. If you find one, write to me and I will correct this page and say that I did.
18+. Gambling can be addictive. A 96.80 percent return is a long run average across millions of spins and it describes no single session, including yours. Nine paylines and a maximum win measured in six figures of your stake mean the money comes back rarely and in lumps, which is what high volatility costs in practice.
